Excavations outside the Simon Building

Excavations have begun outside the Simon Building on Brunswick Street on the first phase of a project to provide resilience to the University’s heating and hot water network
The works are complex and involve substantial excavations outside the Simon Building, with future works planned adjacent to Burlington Street later in this phase of the project. The works are expected to be complete in early 2016.
The aim is to provide security to the supply of existing heating and hot water systems designed to serve our buildings. Heating will not be affected while work is ongoing.
The scheme includes laying new pipes from the basement of the Christie building, through an existing tunnel located under Oxford Road and on towards the basement between the Zochonis and Simon Buildings. Ultimately this will allow buildings on the East of Oxford Road to serve those on the West side, in the event of a major problem.
Temporary pedestrian signage is in place around the site works to direct staff and students whilst the works are underway and the team from Estates is working closely with building occupants and users to minimize any disruption, but apologise for any inconvenience the works may cause.
