October Half Term at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre
15 Sep 2015
Watch a mini rocket launch, build a bridge from spaghetti and meet the expert as part of Manchester Science Festival
Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre is hosting some exciting events as part of Manchester Science Festival during half term, from Monday, 26 to Friday, 30th October.
Science Shows
This December, British European Space Agency astronaut Tim Peake will start his mission to the International Space Station.
To celebrate this mission, our science show will show you the dangers, realities and daily routine of life in space.
Watch a mini-rocket launch, discover how astronauts go about their everyday tasks in microgravity, find out why tiny meteorites are threatening and why returning to Earth is so very dangerous.
All of this is in our fun-filled science show which is sure to contain a bang (or two!)
Shows run at 11am, 12 noon, 2pm and 3pm Monday to Friday only. The show lasts 30 minutes.
Due to the popularity of our science shows we advise booking in advance. To book, call:

The Spaghetti Bridge Challenge
Have you ever wondered why Jodrell Bank’s Lovell Telescope doesn’t collapse from the weight of its 1500 tonne bowl?
It’s all down to the design of the supporting structure.
Join our challenge to build your own bridge from spaghetti to support the most weight – you may be surprised at the results!
This is a drop-in session, just come at any time between 11am and 4pm each day.
Meet the Expert
A chance to meet one of our resident scientific and engineering experts, find out about their work and quiz them about what they do and their knowledge of Jodrell Bank.
If you have an astronomy-themed question you’d like to know the answer to, this is the session for you. Running daily at 1pm.
This activity can be attended by anyone but is most suitable for older children and adults. Tickets are issued on a first come first served basis.
The Manchester Science Festival (Thursday, 22 October to Sunday, 1 November) brings together a unique blend of art, make-it workshops, performances and big experiences for all ages across Greater Manchester.
