Issues with the student printing system
09 Sep 2015
On Friday 4 September, the IT Support Centre received several calls from staff and students experiencing difficulties with student printers (the ‘pull printing system’)
Not all printers and users were affected, but we were aware it was having a significant impact across campus, especially with students printing off dissertations and other course work.
Investigating this with our suppliers, we discovered an issue with the print management software, meaning we had to restart and re-synchronise the eight servers in the pull printing system.
It took us longer than expected to resolve this issue. The service started to become available around 5pm, with full service restored at 10pm once we had fixed a hardware issue.
We are working with our supplier to ensure we have a fix for this issue, and plan to upgrade the software to prevent this from happening in the future.
Many thanks to the front line staff who supported the students and found alternative ways to help them print urgent documents.
We apologise for inconvenience caused during the service interruption.
