Help to ensure the best possible journey experience on bus priority routes
26 Jun 2015
Travel for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and its local authority partners invite you to respond (by Thursday, 9 July) to a consultation on a bus Quality Partnership Scheme (QPS)
Transport for Greater Manchester is investing £122 million in a bus priority package to improve bus connections between Leigh, Atherton, Salford, Middleton, East Didsbury and Manchester. When it is completed, bus passengers across the conurbation will enjoy quicker and more reliable bus journeys for decades to come.
In order to provide future passengers of the services with the best possible journey experience, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Manchester City Council, Salford City Council, Rochdale Borough Council and Wigan Council in partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) are seeking to create a bus Quality Partnership Scheme (QPS) for part of the routes being delivered by the bus priority package.
The QPS will be one of the largest in the UK, spanning four local authorities and covering approximately 50 bus routes operating along the three principal corridors joining up within Manchester city centre. It will ensure a high standard of bus service for all on-highway sections of the bus priority package.
The following routes will be covered by the QPS:
- A580 East Lancashire Road / A6 Chapel Street (Ellenbrook to Manchester city centre), including A577 Tyldesley Road (Atherton to Tyldesley) and A572 Spinning Jenny Way (Leigh Bus Station to guided busway);
- A664 Rochdale Road / Manchester New Road (Middleton to Manchester city centre);
- Oxford Road / Wilmslow Road (East Didsbury to Manchester city centre).
It will deliver the following benefits to passengers
- Improved performance and punctuality standards;
- Better customer relations, through driver training and more consistently delivered customer focused standards;
- Stability of services within the QPS area;
- Improving security and cleanliness;
- Reduced differential between car and bus journey times;
- Maintaining improved vehicle standards.
