Chance for PhD students and post-docs to supervise short research projects

03 Jun 2015

PhD students and PDRAs from any Faculty are invited to provide and supervise short research projects for visiting Mexican students this summer

The Latin American Postgraduate Programme is running a Research School which will start on 20 June 2015 and last for four weeks.

This programme will involve prospective PhD students and a limited number of postdoctoral researchers from Mexico visiting the University to work with current research students and PDRAs.

The idea is that these visiting students and postdoctoral researchers will come to Manchester to undertake a small research project which will take two to three hours of their time per day, as they will also attend English language classes and workshops arranged by the programme.

If you are interested in getting involved then you will be required to provide a very short description of a small research project that will last for one month with one or two clear objectives and supervise the student for the 2-3 hours per day that they will work on the project. You will not be required to supply the visiting Mexican student with office space or computing facilities. However, in some cases it may be necessary for you to meet the student at Manchester airport and take them to their accommodation when they first arrive.

In return for supervising and mentoring the visiting student, you will be receive £100 for the month as a way of thanking you for your help.

If you are interesting in participating in this scheme then please register your interest by completing the following form:

Please return the completed form by no later than Tuesday, 9 June, 2015, to:

If you are a PhD student, please ensure that your supervisor agrees to your taking part in this scheme. Please check this with them before proceeding as they will need to sign off and approve the visiting student’s involvement in the project.
