Free train travel still available for Give Your Car a Rest Day and beyond
10 Jun 2015
Northern Rail's offer of one week's free train travel is open until 30 June
Friday, 19 June – one of the University’s busiest open days - has been designated as Give Your Car a Rest Day, when our staff are being encouraged and supported to try out more sustainable forms of travel, with the aim of freeing up car park spaces for visitors and creating the best possible impression of the campus.
More than 150 members of staff who usually drive to and from work have taken up the offer (now closed) of a Personalised Travel Plan detailing sustainable travel options and, in some cases, providing free bus or tram tickets.
There's still time to get one week's free train travel from Northern Rail, who are keeping this offer open until 30 June for any of our car park permit holders who plan to take part in Give Your Car a Rest Day.

Professor James Thompson, Associate Vice President for Social Responsibility, said "By asking our staff to 'give your car a rest', this brand-new initiative is not only helping to improve the visitor experience during the busy 19 June Open Day, but is also raising awareness of the wide range of alternative travel options which are available as part of the University’s Sustainable Travel Plan."
