Bake sale raises money for Nepal
Last week the Teaching and Learning Support Office (TLSO), the Library and Student Communications and Marketing baked and ate a lot of cake to raise funds to help the survivors of the Nepal earthquakes.
More than 8,800 people were killed and 23,000 injured when Nepal was hit by an earthquake in April; a major aftershock in May killed a further 200 people and injured 2,500. The quake decimated the area, leaving cities, towns and villages reduced to rubble.
The bake sale raised £350 in total for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
Organiser, Student Communications and Marketing Officer Lisa Donnelly, said: “Organising a bake sale is an easy – and delicious – way of raising money for charity. The plight of the Nepalese people may fade from the media but if you can bake, or eat, this method is a great way of raising cash!”
DEC, which brings together 13 UK charities, provides emergency shelter, food, clean water and blankets in the immediate aftermath and then supports individuals, families and communities to rebuild their lives.
