Royal Society Fellowship for Particle Physicist

Congratulations to Dr Andrzej Szelc from the School of Physics and Astronomy, who has been awarded a prestigious Royal Society University Research Fellowship to be taken up in October this year

The fellowships are awarded for a period of up to eight years to outstanding scientists who have the potential to become leaders in their field.

Dr Szelc joins the University of Manchester’s Particle Physics group from Yale University, where he developed liquid argon time projection chambers to be used in neutrino and dark matter experiments. He received his PhD from the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Krakow, Poland, and has previously worked at the Gran Sasso Laboratory in Italy.

During his Fellowship at the University of Manchester, Dr Szelc will continue to drive the development of a new advanced light readout system for liquid-argon detectors, which will increase their sensitivity to record neutrino bursts from a supernova collapse.
