Great team ethic at Wythenshawe Park

Estates and Facilities staff pleased to say ‘we did that!’
A 16-strong team of Estates and Facilities staff headed down to Wythenshawe Park on a beautiful summer’s morning on Friday 15 May.
Their task was to contribute to the annual Give and Gain Day, along with 15,000 other volunteer employees from around the country.
Those who had not been to Wythenshawe Park before were really impressed by the pleasant surroundings and surprised by its size.
Thanks to friendly Manchester City Council staff, the team were given the opportunity to transform a neglected area of land right by the main driveway and took to the task with real enthusiasm and a great team ethic.
A hard day’s digging, de-weeding and planting ensued, with a well-earned pit stop at the super-friendly Courtyard Café.
A few tired limbs and sun-burnt necks aside, everyone really enjoyed the chance to contribute to such a worthwhile cause and gained real satisfaction from a superb team effort that was so valued by those working at the park, as well as the locals; many of whom came over to show their support.
For the team it was a rare opportunity to get to know the person behind the emails and everyone got along famously.
Team members passing nearby are already planning to divert journeys, with smartphones primed, to see how the flower beds are coming along!
Andrew Hough said: “Put simply, it’s wonderful to be able to say ‘we did that!’ and I’m sure we’d love to do it all over again next year and would whole-heartedly recommend it to colleagues across the University.”
