Launch of exciting new book on ethnic identity and inequalities in Britain
13 May 2015
You are invited to the launch of Ethnic identity and inequalities in Britain: The dynamics of diversity, edited by two University academics, on 21 May (4-6pm) at Manchester Central Library
This book will be the first to offer in-depth analysis from the last three UK population censuses focusing on the dynamics of ethnic identity and inequalities in contemporary Britain. While providing a comprehensive overview, it also clarifies concepts associated with greater ethnic diversity, increased segregation, exclusive growth of minority groups through immigration and a national identity crisis.
The Centre on Dynamics of Ethnicity (CoDE) will be hosting a talk by the book editors Stephen Jivraj and Ludi Simpson followed by a response from Professor Claire Alexander. The talk will highlight the key findings from the book, including how Britain is expected to see a growing variety of diverse areas, how inequalities persist for most ethnic groups relative to the White British group and how ethnic inequalities are greatest in better off neighbourhoods.
