A fully funded PhD in Power Networks or Materials for Demanding Environments (M4DE) offers the opportunity to gain experience in industry while studying for a PhD.

PhDs in Power Networks or M4DE

Power Networks offers the opportunity to choose a project from a wide range of energy-related topics, including design, operation, changes to energy demands, cross-cutting technologies, and low-carbon energy sources.

Projects in M4DE primarily focus on addressing the needs of the oil and gas, aerospace, and nuclear industries, and will include cross-sector materials challenges.

The projects are to be offered to students from a wide range of academic backgrounds to encourage exciting multidisciplinary research.

The first few months of the programmes will also include a taught element and training to prepare you for your chosen research project.

These places are open to UK and EU students with a First or Upper Second class degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business, Geography and other related subjects.
