Film shows Campus Masterplan flagship take shape
The recently opened National Graphene Institute (NGI) was filmed over its construction phase by Mike Smith from the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE) and a short film made using just an iPad.
The film runs for under three minutes and shows the phases of the Institute being built from the summer of 2013 to its official opening by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne last week.
The NGI is the national centre for graphene research and will enable academics and industry to work side-by-side on the graphene applications of the future.
More than 35 companies from across the world have already chosen to partner with the University working on graphene-related projects.
The construction of the NGI was managed by the Directorate of Estates and Facilities and is one of the flagship projects of the Campus Masterplan. The Government provided £38 million for the construction via the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), with the remaining £23 million provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
