Lecturer in Screen Studies helps compile Time Out’s 100 best Bollywood films

Dr Rajinder Dudrah

A University academic has helped compile a list of the 100 best Bollywood films for the London listings magazine, Time Out.

Dr Rajinder Dudrah, a Senior Lecturer in Screen Studies who has researched and published widely in film, media and cultural studies, was one of 6 Bollywood experts from India, Britain and the US polled by Time Out.

The select group provided their own top ten mainstream Hindi movies before the magazine crunched the numbers to come up with its definitive list of great Bollywood movies.

Rajinder’s top choice Sholay (1975) – described as an action, thriller and western – came in at number one.

His second choice, the historical epic and love story Mughal-e-Azam (1960), also came in at number two. And his third choice, the romantic drama Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), which ran in one Mumbai cinema for 19 years, came in at number four.
