Philanthropy Day - your chance to thank the University's donors
25 Feb 2015
On Tuesday, 3 March, we will be kick starting a month long celebration of the importance and impact of philanthropy at The University of Manchester by encouraging students and staff to recognise the generosity of our donors
Come to one of our stands at University Place or the Students' Union to sign thank you post cards for our donors, and get involved on social media by sharing what you love about Manchester using #ILoveUoM.
Take a selfie with one of the large I Love UoM stickers that you might spot around campus at locations which have been supported by donations - tweet us or put it on Facebook, tell us what you love about Manchester using #ILoveUoM and the best entry will win a University of Manchester hoody!
You may not realise it, but many of the things that you love about Manchester have actually been made possible by the generosity of people who donate to The University of Manchester’s priorities.
Since UMIST and Victoria University merged on 22 October 2004 to create the largest single-site university in the UK, over 9,300 individuals have donated over £22,000,000 to support causes all over campus and beyond: helping students from low-income backgrounds and developing countries study here, battling cancer and climate change, and enriching the Manchester experience for students.
Many of these donors are alumni of The University of Manchester, but also include staff members, students and friends of the University.
People make donations for a variety of reasons, but it all comes down to loving Manchester – its people, its research and its future.
