Time to Talk: raising awareness of mental health
19 Feb 2015
The Supporting Staff with Mental Health Problems course is available to help managers
On 5 February we asked you to take five minutes to talk about mental health. Many of you did and we raised £107.
Thanks to all of you who came along to the event in the Atrium, to the volunteers who baked and helped out on the day and to those who held their own events.
It’s quite likely that one day you, one of your friends, colleagues or family members will experience a mental health problem. Yet mental illness is still surrounded by prejudice, ignorance and fear.
Events like these help us to challenge the stigma associated with mental ill health as well as providing an opportunity to promote the services and support the University can offer.
If you are a manager, the Supporting Staff with Mental Health Problems course can help you to:
- Understand stigma and its origins;
- Overcome and dispel myths;
- Understand different mental health problems and their impact;
- Access strategies to support people effectively;
- Locate sources of support in the University and locally.
