University of Manchester academic to chair national depression guideline

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has appointed Professor Nav Kapur from the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences’ Centre for Mental Health and Risk to Chair their Depression Guideline

Professor Kapur is currently Head of Research in the Centre for Suicide Prevention and previously chaired NICE’s self-harm guidelines in 2012.

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Kapur said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to chair the guideline for this area of mental health. Depression in its various forms is very common, ranging from mild to potentially life threatening and the NICE guidelines will be very important in helping to improve patient care.”
