University achieves double success with network funding bids

The University has made two successful bids, one local and one national, for funding under the National Networks for Collaborative Outreach (NNCO) for two networks of which it is a partner member

The local network (Greater Manchester Higher) will bring together all Greater Manchester HEIs and FE colleges with HE provision. Led by MMU, the network will provide a single point of contact for teachers and advisors offering information, advice and guidance on the range of HE pathways across Greater Manchester, particularly focused on ages 11 to 16. The network will afford members an opportunity to share best practice and evaluate the effectiveness of different activities.

Stephanie Lee, Head of Widening Participation, said: "The Network is a great opportunity to extent the collaborative activity that we have been developing with MMU over the last three years since the national Aimhigher programme came to an end. The Network provides a platform to showcase the wide range of HE provision that exists across Greater Manchester, making it easier for teachers and advisors to find relevant information and activities for their leaners."

The University was also part of a bid to extend an existing network (National Network for the Education of Care Leavers) with a focus on young people who have experienced time in care. This funding will enable the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers to develop resources and guidance for those who support young people leaving care and who are making the transition into HE.
