Pilot scheme for 2015
From 1 February 2015, the University is to trial a new approach to the way we procure stationery as an organisation.
Working with suppliers and the Carbon Leadership Group, it has been agreed that stationery will move from a five-day delivery pattern to a three-day pattern. Deliveries will be spread across the working week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
There are several reasons why this change has been implemented:
- In line with University strategic goals, a reduction in the number of deliveries will result in an associated reduction in the CO2 emissions associated with procurement.
- Work is expected to be carried out on Oxford Road during 2015 as part of Transport for Greater Manchester’s Bus Priority Scheme, resulting in the re-routing of delivery vehicles both temporarily and permanently; a reduction in vehicle numbers visiting campus during and after these works will be very useful.
- The policy is designed to encourage a considered approach to ordering, where stationery is ordered on a weekly or monthly basis as a grouped order, resulting in a reduced workload for requisitioners. Processing cost will be reduced, as fewer requisitions and invoices are needed. An instantaneous impact will be a significant reduction in waste packaging produced due to the combining of multiple orders.
All eMarketplace stationery suppliers have been briefed of the changes and are prepared to adjust their delivery schedules for the University accordingly.
In order to facilitate a smooth change to the new system, requisitioners are asked to ensure that the correct delivery address is selected e.g. room and building, as incorrect delivery details may result in delayed deliveries. Drivers will be making more deliveries on a given day and we need to ensure they have correct delivery information.
