Microwave and Communications Group event

Researchers in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering have raised £170 for the Disasters Emergency Committee Ebola Crisis Appeal.

The Microwave and Communications Group – which focuses on multidisciplinary approaches to problems in areas such as highly mobile communications, as well as microwave components and systems for industrial applications – collected donations at their Annual International Food Day.

Staff and students prepared dishes representing their home country, for the group to sample. These included recipes from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bangladesh, India, UK, Bahrain, Uganda, Libya, Nigeria, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Iran and the UK.

Ebola virus disease is a serious illness that originated in Africa, where there is currently an outbreak. Around 14,413 cases and 5,177 deaths have been reported by the World Health Organization in what is the largest known outbreak of Ebola.

Disasters Emergency Committee member agencies and their partners are working urgently to help stop the spread of the disease and providing support to those affected by the crisis.
