Former student leads Games Maker Choir at Twickenham

Victoria’s ‘living legacy’ of London games gets high profile gig

Former student Victoria Verbi, will be leading the Games Maker Choir – the ‘living legacy of the 2012 Olympics’, which she founded with 150 London games volunteers – at the England vs South Africa match on Saturday 15 November, at Twickenham Stadium, as part of the QBE International Series. 

The Rugby Football Union asked the choir to provide pre-match and half time entertainment as well as performing the stirring South African National anthem.

The Games Maker Choir was formed at The Olympic Park by recent Geography graduate Victoria and embodies the special “something” that came alive during that amazing summer of sport. What started as an idea over the dinner table is now an established performance choir appearing around the country supporting British sporting excellence.

The choir are used to performing on the big stage having been signed by Decca, and releasing a charity single called “I Wish for You the World”. And with the support of Boris Johnson, David Cameron and Lord Coe, they entered the annual race for Xmas Number One culminating in a performance on the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.

Since then, the choir has been in high demand and has performed for, among others, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Help for Heroes, the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, the Join In Anniversary Games, Sport Relief and the Tour de France. 

Victoria said: “We are delighted to be performing at Twickenham Stadium to help create a fantastic pre-match atmosphere. We see ourselves as a legacy from one of Britain’s greatest ever sporting events, so it’s great to be able to perform at such an iconic venue at such a big match. ”
