Update from the Director of Human Resources
Further to my previous communication regarding the notification by the University and College Union (UCU) that it will take continuous industrial action short of a strike in the form of an assessment and marking boycott commencing on 6 November 2014, the University has met with representatives from the UCU and after agreeing to clarify the position we have now received further advice from the USS in respect of the implications to the USS pension benefits in the event of a 20% deduction of salary.
The revised note below sets out the University of Manchester’s policy and explains how the University will maintain employer contributions and support individuals to maintain their pension membership:
A revised pro-forma (Form A) is provided for you to complete indicating the date from which you will be refusing to carry out duties associated with assessment and return the pro-forma to your Head of School when you take such action:
You should complete the additional pro-forma (Form B) to advise that you have ceased to participate in the actionand return this pro-forma to your Head of School to confirm this:
If you have any queries about this, then please refer to:
Further updates on industrial action will be issued as soon as information is available.

Director of Human Resources
