Sign up to run in the dark - with others across the globe

Help raise funds for charity in honour of blind runner

Run in the Dark Manchester 2013

The Mark Pollock Trust - which raises funds for research into spinal cord injury - is inviting people to sign up for Run In The Dark, a charity event on Wednesday, 12 November.

The night-time race, which has 5km or 10km options, will see the runners wearing glow-in-the-dark bands and the Media City area of Salford Quays spectacularly lit up - along with other venues across the globe.

The event takes place in tribute to Mark Pollock. Unbroken by blindness at 22, Mark competed in ultra endurance races across deserts, mountains, and the polar ice caps including a two-month expedition race to the South Pole. He won silver and bronze rowing in the Commonwealth Games.

In July 2010, the challenge chose Mark. A tragic fall left him paralysed. Now Mark is living his own lessons, a pioneer exploring the frontiers of spinal cord injury recovery.

The same race is happening in multiple countries worldwide on the same night at the same time.

Last year was the first year the event came to Manchester and this year the Trust, a not for profit organisation for which these races are the main source of funding, is expecting it to be even bigger.
