Served with custard: Kenny and Alison accept charity challenge
21 Oct 2014
After being nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge by Diana Hampson, Director of Estates and Facilities, in early September, Kenny Nolan and Alison Aucott put it off for as long as they could, but eventually agreed to take part in the challenge with a bit of a twist
On Monday, 20 October, Kenny (Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities) and Alison (Head of Hospitality and Events) each had 10 litres of (rather lumpy) custard poured over them, to raise money for Reverse Rett, a charity set up to fund research into a condition called Rett Syndrome.
Rett Syndrome is a regressive neurological condition affecting only girls from the age of about one. Rett girls start to lose any learned motor and communication skills and the regression continues throughout their lives. Most will never talk or walk, will never be able to communicate, and will suffer fits and seizures.
Scientists think it may be possible to reverse the condition through gene therapy and the charity is fundraising to accelerate that work and hopefully free these girls and their parents from this horrible condition.
