Come and meet the young historians of Manchester

The work of Manchester Academy pupils will be showcased at the University next week, when The Runnymede Trust presents 'History Lessons': work carried out by the pupils to depict local history and the impact that diversity and migration can have on the formation of local spaces.

Manchester Academy is one of three schools in England with whom the Trust has been working on an AHRC-funded collaboration with Manchester and Cambridge University, looking at diversity in the national history curriculum.

Over the past year, they have engaged pupils aged 12-14 years in historical research using a range of innovative methods – including teaching them archive research skills and how to present findings in digital, multi-media formats. Teachers who worked on the project have embedded this research more broadly in the way they teach history.
