SPORT Manchester nominees crowned Trafford Club of the Year
08 Oct 2014
Longford Girls FC, nominated by SPORT Manchester, has won the Club of the Year category in this year's Trafford Sports Awards, which celebrate achievements in sport across the Borough
As well as providing girls with the opportunity to play football, Longford Girls FC gives placements to members of the University's Sports Volunteer Scheme. The Scheme is open to staff and students across the University and encourages engagement in sport and the local community. Volunteers undertake a wide variety of roles, form coaching and officiating to club and event management, with support from the scheme to gain training and qualifications to support their roles.
Representatives of the Sports Volunteer Scheme attended the annual awards ceremony on 19 September at Urmston Leisure Centre. The event provided a great meeting place for everyone who had participated, coached or volunteered in sports during the last year. The interval entertainment was provided by the highly successful Trafford Synchronised Swimming Team, who showed off some of their award-winning members and routines.
Against strong competition, Longford Girls FC won the prestigious title of Club of the Year and will now go forward to the Greater Manchester Sports Awards 2014, to be presented in November.
