Food, Cities, Behaviour event marks World Food Day

On 16 October 2014 (2-6pm), there will be a half-day of inspiring talks and discussion from speakers from the city, academia and all over the world exploring the challenge and opportunity of sustainability in the Kanaris Theatre, Manchester Museum.
Taking place on World Food Day, this will be a fast-paced event of lectures and lively discussion around the themes of sustainable food, cities and human behaviour.
Talks will be delivered by leading academics, business people, social entrepreneurs and international speakers from the Do Not Smile sustainable communications network. The event will close with drinks and networking.
Speakers confirmed so far include Asda, Biospheric Foundation, ETANTE, Goodvertising (Copenhagen), Kelloggs, the Moss Cider Project, Myra (Istanbul), Sidiese (Paris), Silverback (Rome), Tipping Points (Bonn), and the University of Manchester. More speakers will be confirmed during the coming weeks. The event will be chaired by Creative Concern.
The lectures are being staged in partnership with the University of Manchester, following a series of breakfast sustainability debates at the John Rylands Library, and will be the first ‘live’ extension of the online knowledge-sharing project Platform, itself a partnership between Creative Concern, the University of Salford, Mistra Urban Futures and Greater Manchester Combined Authority. The event is also part of the inaugural Greater Manchester Food Poverty Week.
Themes covered by the speakers will include food, sustainability and waste; cider; communications and behaviour change; corporate sustainability and ‘reputation’; mobility and sustainable travel; and the ethics and future of communications.
Talks and a live blog of the event will be published on Platform. The lectures will be short and highly visual, with just 8-10 minutes for each speaker in sequences of four to five presentations followed by audience contributions from the floor.
