‘Bigger and better’ Policy Week programme launched

Leading thinkers from the world of politics and policy will be on campus during this year’s Policy Week – a high-profile showcase of our research-based knowledge and expertise
Manchester Policy Week 2014 (3-7 November) will include lectures, debates and workshops organised by researchers across the University, featuring high-profile figures and policy influencers.
Dozens of events will take place on theme of Addressing Inequalities – and the week will mark the launch of the Social Responsibility Signature Programme of the same name.
Highlights include:
- An opening address from former government minister Lord Heseltine.
- A debate on inequality chaired by new Newsnight presenter Evan Davis, with Shadow Childcare Minister Lucy Powell MP and Prof Kate Pickett on the panel.
- A keynote lecture from eminent social geographer Prof Danny Dorling.
- A debate on the pros and cons of the EU-US trade deal, chaired by journalist and alumnus Michael Taylor.
- A debate on welfare spending at home and abroad featuring Alison McGovern MP (Shadow Minister for International Development).
Policy Week will this year have a central location of Nowgen, on Grafton Street. The majority of events will take place there, with some additional ones at the Friends Meeting House in central Manchester.
All events are free – although booking is required – and are open to staff, students, decision makers, policy professional, practitioners and members of the public.

Policy Week is organised by policy@manchester, an initiative that aims to showcase the great contribution of Manchester researchers to the development of public policy in the UK and internationally.
It seeks to support policy engagement at the University through regular events, online analysis and comment, and the provision of resources and advice to our researchers.
