"Shellshock" IT bug – what you need to know

You may have heard or read about the so called 'ShellShock' bug that is affecting IT systems around the world; allowing criminals to gain access to IT systems.
IT staff are aware of the University systems that could be affected by this bug and are currently working to apply the necessary fixes to protect them.
In terms of keeping your own personal desktop systems safe from this bug; if you are running Microsoft Windows, then you need do nothing. If you are running a Linux or a Macintosh system, then you should apply any security updates as soon as they become available.
