Register now for the TurningTechnologies International User Conference on Monday, 22 September 2014 (9am-4pm) at Core Technology Facillity
TurningTechnologies, the company behind the TurningPoint ‘clickers’ and software, are holding their one-day international user conference at the Core Technology Facility, which can be found on campus map (Building 86 - just behind Stopford Building) or on Gmap.
This educational technology can facilitate interactive and engaging face-to-face teaching by allowing instructors to poll students quickly and anonymously on their opinion or grasp of concept, and use this data as a prompt for discussion or tailor teaching to student need. The tool is already being used at the University of Manchester, and winning the praise of both students and staff.
The one-day conference will bring together educators from around the world to share and discuss their pedagogy with this teaching tool. Papers will be delivered from staff within the Faculty of Humanities and School of Pharmacy.
The keynote delivered by Dr Eric Mazur, Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics and Area Dean for Applied Physics at Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, promises to be interesting and inspiring. Dr Mazur pioneered the ‘Peer Instruction’ teaching technique that utilises small-group discussion, focused around a task, to activate learning within large-cohort lectures. His keynote will explore and demonstrate some of the approaches that he has successfully used around this core idea.
The University has been able to negotiate free entry for all staff.
