Directors dare to get drenched for a good cause: the video
08 Sep 2014
Director of Estates and Facilities Diana Hampson and Assistant Director Steve Jordan took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge this week to raise funds for charity Reverse Rett
The pair faced their icy ordeal in the Old Quad outside the Beyer Building on 3 September because a close relative of Diana’s has recently been diagnosed with Rett Syndrome.
This regressive neurological condition affects only girls from the age of about one year. Rett girls start to lose any learned motor and communication skills and the regression continues throughout their lives. Most will never talk or walk, will never be able to communicate, and will suffer fits and seizures.
Scientists think it may be possible to reverse the condition through gene therapy. Reverse Rett is fundraising to accelerate that work and hopefully free these girls and their parents from this horrible condition.
