E-learning talent recognised by national award

Jade Kelsall, e-Learning Technologist for The University of Manchester Library, has been awarded second place in the individual category of the Association for Learning and Technology’s Learning Technologist of the Year Award (ALT) 2014

Now in its seventh year, the award celebrates and rewards excellent practice and outstanding achievement in the learning technology field.

The award recognises Jade's work in championing open education, promoting and advising on the effective use of e-learning within the library sector. The e-learning materials Jade creates are viewed as leading the way in online information literacy and academic skills teaching.

Only 18 months into the role, Jade has already created an award-winning programme of online academic skills resources from scratch as part of ‘My Learning Essentials’, which won a Blackboard Catalyst Award earlier this year, and has shaped the direction of the Library’s e-learning initiatives.

Katy Woolfenden, the Library’s Head of Teaching, Learning and Students, commented: “I am delighted for Jade. This is an excellent achievement and testament to Jade’s vision, skills and passion for e-learning. She is a true asset to the team and the innovative resources she has created have transformed staff and student perceptions of what online learning can offer.”

The award was presented on 2 September, at the ALT-C annual conference in Warwick.
