Jan Wilkinson, University Librarian and Director of The John Rylands Library has received an honorary degree from the University of Leicester for her services to HE Librarianship and Information Science
At a degree ceremony on Friday 18th July, Jan received the award alongside Economics and Social Sciences graduands in the De Montford Hall. The award was presented by the Chancellor of the University of Leicester, The Right Honourable The Lord Grocott.
At Leicester it is customary for the recipient of an honorary award to address the graduands and offer them some advice for the future. In her address, Jan paid tribute to the many different colleagues who have supported her over the years, and attributed much of her success to a careful choice of role models, alongside a commitment to making her personal contribution different and valuable.
Jan commented: “My feelings about this honour are of both surprise and pride. It is marvellous that the VC at Leicester, Sir Bob Burgess, has noticed what a difference our libraries make to university life and success. I very much see this as another award for the Library and our profession.”
