Dive into data!
04 Jul 2014
Event for Data Scientists, Developers, Coders and Data Enthusiasts
The University’s Big Data Community will be working with Big Data experts Aridhia and the creative media labs at The Landing to bring you the Greater Manchester Data Dive.
The event – at The Landing in MediaCity, Salford, on Tuesday 22 July – will utilise Aridhia's new collaborative data science platform, AnalytiXagility.
You can bring your own tools if you wish, though Aridhia are keen to get feedback to help guide the continued development of their platform.
Open data-sets will be made available via AnalytiXagility prior to the event, providing you with an opportunity to interact with the data and begin coming up with ideas (the in-built collaboration functions will provide you with an opportunity to form into teams, should you wish), then simply bring your ideas on the day of the hack and spend the time working with the data to analyse potential solutions, proof-of-concepts or pitches.
The fast-paced day will be high-energy and focused, and will bring together all the necessary components to allow your data-science skills and ingenuity to make an impact. Mentors will be on hand to help and relevant stakeholders will bring real-world knowledge, so you and your team won’t be problem solving alone. You are free to explore the data in any way you like or address a specific challenge brought forward prior to the event by social organisations in Greater Manchester.
It doesn’t matter how far you get with your idea over the course of the day – it’s all about testing the boundaries.
At the end of the day, each team will pitch their findings to our team of judges and prizes will be awarded in a range of categories.
