Serenade for a Summer Night

04 Jul 2014

Jacobean music, strawberries and bubbly close Tabley House concert season

The last of the Friends of Tabley Summer Concerts will take place at Tabley House on Tuesday 15 July with a celebration of song from The Border Singers.

More used to performing in the bleak midwinter at Tabley, for the annual sell-out Carol Concert, The Border Singers are now looking forward to visiting on a warm summer’s evening, and performing in the House for the first time.

The programme will feature music from the time of Elizabeth I and the Jacobean era as well as music written for Elizabeth II looking back at the reign of her predecessor. The concert will also feature a viol consort to accompany some of the pieces.

Items will include madrigals from the set known as The Triumphs of Oriana, 17th century anthems and Britten's Dances from Gloriana. Songs will be interspersed with reading from The Tabley House Collection’s rich literary archives, including poems penned by members of the Leicester family themselves.

To celebrate the close of the Summer Concert season, strawberries and bubbly will be served.
