Professor Joseph Lampel to drive innovation studies
Manchester Business School has appointed strategic management expert Joseph Lampel as the Eddie Davies Chair in Enterprise, Innovation and Strategy.
Joseph joins a team including Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, a centre of excellence at MBS in the field of innovation studies which brings together a group of internationally renowned academics and practitioners.
After receiving his doctorate in strategic management from McGill University, Montreal in 1990, Joseph held a number of positions at universities across America and England - including The Stern School of Business New York University, Nottingham Business School and most recently, as Professor of Innovation at Cass Business School.
He has consulted and worked with top management teams in the area of strategy and business innovation for a wide variety of organisations including EMI Music Group, John Lewis Partnership, GlaxoSmithKline and The International Chamber of Commerce.
Joseph said: “Manchester has a long-established reputation in the field of innovation policy and enterprise management and I am delighted to be joining a team that has pushed the boundaries in this area for over 40 years. The Eddie Davies Chair brings significant opportunities to develop new research initiatives and foster industry links in the UK and internationally.”
Alongside his research and consulting activity, Joseph has also edited seven special edition journals and is the author of more than fifty articles debating developments in his area of expertise.

The position was generously funded by entrepreneur and long-standing supporter of the school, Eddie Davies CBE.
