IT Services working to address concerns raised in the Staff Survey

The Staff Survey 2013 identified performance management and office accommodation as being important areas for improvement, by staff working in IT Services
IT Services have been developing a Performance Management and Development framework for IT managers and staff. Currently nearing the end of a pilot phase across a number of IT teams, the model is based around a quarterly review process enabling more frequent ‘SMART’ objective setting and review. This will provide a mechanism for a directorate-wide, consistent approach to recognising and rewarding exceptional performance. Managers have been given training and resources to enable them to get the most from appraisal meetings with their staff.
A review of the pilots will follow shortly, ahead of what is expected to be a wider roll-out across the Directorate. The new model will need to be aligned with the University-wide initiative on Performance Management (led my Marin Humphries) and the newly announced Staff Development initiative in PSS.
The on-going IT Transformation Programme will also see further improvements being made that will impact positively on the wellbeing of many IT colleagues, including redevelopment of the office space that part of IT currently occupies within the Kilburn Building. Discussion is already underway with Estates to update this space with a view to creating a more light and airy, open-plan environment.
