Oxbridge Biotech Roundtable, Manchester Chapter, Charities debate
05 Jun 2014
On Tuesday, 10 June at 6pm in the Michael Smith Theatre, a panel of experts will come together to debate 'Charities, Collaboration and Commercialisation: How Reserach Charities Impact UK Biotech'
They will debate the potential detrimental effects on vital research of collaborations formed between research charities and the commerical industry. The discussion will focus on issues that can arise as a result of charities supporting translational research and commercialisation. These associations can be beneficial to the development of new treatments, and they can help to increase the commercial impact of the charity.
There is real concern however, over the subsequent redirection of money away from funding scientific research that is so crucial to medical developments. It also begs the question as to whether this will result in smaller, non-commercially viable, patient populations being neglected.
