Faculty of Life Sciences has taken a number of steps to improve communication
04 Jun 2014
Including a re-organisation of research in the Faculty with new Research Themes launching at the start of June
The aim is that these Themes should facilitate inter-disciplinarily and research innovation. A critical component of this new organisation will be the new Research Theme Directors (RTDs), who will be expected to take an active role in leading and shaping the research direction, facilitating innovation and providing vision and input into the Faculty’s research strategy and challenges. An additional benefit of the re-organisation will be simplifying lines of communication, and the introduction of newly formatted Research Leadership Team meetings.
Simon Merrywest, Director of Faculty Operations, has introduced a Director’s Brief specifically for PSS staff which contains includes general updates on the Faculty and University, a “spotlight on” a particular area of the PSS in the Faculty and the monthly; CoreMunicate.
The Faculty also encourages more informal interactions. For example, it holds a Happy Hour each month on a Friday, which has now been opened to all Faculty staff (previously it was academic staff). Once month, it also hosts a soiree in the Christie Bistro where a cross section of staff are invited to come and enjoy drinks and supper together.
