Life-saving staff receive recognition they deserve

Members of the Occupational Health Service are thanked for their quick-thinking actions
The University’s ‘Thank You’ scheme, which was launched earlier this year as a result of feedback from the Staff Survey, is recognising the contributions staff are making on a day-to-day basis.
Amongst them is an amazing group of colleagues from the University’s Occupational Health Service, who got involved in the serious road traffic accident which took place on Oxford Road back in February.
The crash which involved a car and a taxi, happened just outside the Occupational Health Services base on Waterloo Place.
As soon as the collision took place, a nurse from the team rushed outside to administer first-aid to the driver of the car, which had overturned and ended up on the pavement.
Meanwhile, another member of the team went to the aid of the taxi driver, while others helped to make sure that passers-by were kept away from the scene.
Other nurses and members of staff ran in and out of Waterloo Place bringing equipment and supplies, as well as ringing for the ambulance and dealing with students who had witnessed the accident.
A senior member of the Occupational Health Services team commented: “It was a very dramatic incident and I felt very proud of my team who didn’t think twice about getting involved and helping out in any way they could until the emergency services arrived. We all worked together as a team.”
To recognise the contribution members of the team, David Barker, Director of Compliance and Risk took team members for lunch to say thank you for their quick-thinking actions.
