Vintage bus takes colleagues to their appreciative destination - Manchester's Museum of Transport

Staff from the Faculty’s Institute of Population Health had a ‘wheely’ busy day when they took part in a volunteering day at Manchester’s Museum of Transport.

The team of 12 carried out a variety of tasks at the Cheetham Hill museum, including archiving, cleaning buses, sorting admission tickets, building gantries, fixing mini cranes and assisting with bus repairs. 

The Institute’s Senior Operations Manager, Karen Goodson, who organised the volunteers, said: “The focus of the day was not only about helping our partners in the community, but it also offered the team the chance to meet new people and to develop new skills.”

The museum has been operating for 35 years from premises based in Boyle Street and has one of Britain’s largest collections of restored trams, buses and coaches. 

Chris Lonergan, Director of the Charity that manages the museum, welcomed the volunteering opportunity and offered to provide transport for the volunteers to and from the museum in a vintage bus from the Museum’s collection.

All of the staff who participated agreed that day not only gave them a great sense of achievement, but was also lots of fun and they are looking forward to the next volunteering opportunity.
