A Century On The Dole: From the Poor Laws to JobCentrePlus
21 May 2014
On 6 June (11am-2pm) at the People’s History Museum
Tracing the development of unemployment relief through the institutions of its administration, ‘A Century on the Dole’ will outline the history of signing on; through Labour Exchanges, the means test, to a modernised welfare system.
The event will be a day of discussion and artefact handling within the museum galleries, with Bethan Foulkes (The University of Manchester).
