Book now for courses in June and July 2014

Fundamentals of next generation sequencing
Wednesday, 18 June 2014

This one-day course is aimed at researchers and scientists from the NHS, academia and industry who require an introduction to next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies.

Delegates will learn about the main sequencing platforms, their underlying chemistry, and sample preparation approaches. The course will cover the varied applications of NGS technologies in diagnostic genetics, clinical research and public health microbiology. Case studies will demonstrate how NGS is currently being used and the bioinformatic considerations will be discussed.

UoM discounted course fee: £105

Introduction to NGS bioinformatics
Thursday, 19 June 2014

This one-day course is aimed at researchers and scientists from the NHS, academia and industry who require an introduction to next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis.

Delegates will learn about the basics of NGS bioinformatics, data quality control, read mapping and downstream analysis. There will be hands on data analysis sessions – using Galaxy – covering data preparation, building a work flow, and DNA seq and RNA seq applications. The day will also include a short showcase from NGS solution providers.

UoM discounted course fee: £200

Interpretation of clinical NGS data *NEW*
Wednesday, 9 and Thursday, 10 July 2014

Day 1:  9 July 2014

This new course is a timely introduction to some of the bioinformatic tools and resources available that allow interpretation of such large datasets and enable the extraction of meaningful candidate results for further investigation in the clinic. The day will provide insights into how to filter, analyse, record and prioritise results of NGS analyses and will also introduce delegates to the bioinformatics and ethical considerations.

Day 2, 10 July 2014 (optional)

Is a practical workshop, providing an opportunity for delegates to have hands-on experience of some of the tools and resources discussed on Day 1. Based in our dedicated bioinformatics training suite, delegates will work through a series of practical computer-based exercises covering different stages of variant filtering and analysis. There is an opportunity in the afternoon sessions for delegates to work through a variant analysis ‘pipeline’. Places for this practical day are limited to 20 delegates.

UoM discounted course fees: day one only £105, days one and two £305
