Nominations for External Awards and Prizes*

30 Apr 2014

The Senior Leadership Team has agreed guidelines for submission of entries for prizes and awards, which should be observed for the Times Higher Education Awards 2014.

THE Awards 2014

Success and shortlisting in externally-organised awards and prizes can provide an opportunity to celebrate the good work being done by colleagues and provide a valuable boost for the University’s brand and reputation.

The University has been successful in a number of recent awards and the Senior Leadership Team is supportive of colleagues nominating the University or specific colleagues and teams for awards and is keen to ensure that this is done in an organised and co-ordinated manner which improves our chances of success and avoids possible embarrassment.

In short, we need to ensure that our entries for awards are professionally presented and that we only submit entries for awards that are appropriate and where we think that we have a good chance of success. We also need to avoid different parts of the University competing against each other for the same award.

The Senior Leadership Team has agreed the following guidelines for submission of entries for prizes and awards:

  • Entries for awards or prizes that recognise achievement in a specific discipline, specialism or professional area should be agreed and “signed off” by the most appropriate Head of School or PSS Director, who, in turn, should notify the VP and Dean for the Faculty or Registrar, Secretary and COO that an entry has been submitted.

  • Entries for high profile or institutional awards (such as THE annual awards) require the approval of the of the President and Vice-Chancellor or the Senior Leadership Team before submission and should be forwarded to the appropriate VP and Dean for the Faculty or Registrar, Secretary and COO for consideration by the Senior Leadership Team in good time before the closing date for entries.

  • Requests for support for entries for awards that fall outside your own area of authority or expertise should be forwarded to the Office of the President and Vice-Chancellor for their advice and consideration.

The next set of high profile awards on the horizon are the Times Higher Education Awards 2014, which have 18 categories and a closing date for nominations of 1 June 2014. If you would like to submit an entry for the University in any of the categories for these awards, you should submit a proposal or a draft entry to your VP and Dean or the Registrar and Secretary by no later than Friday, 16 May, so that the President and/or SLT can decide if your entry can go forward and assistance can be offered in preparing the final submission.
