Microsoft Windows XP support ended on 8 April 2014

06 May 2014

Important news for all users of Microsoft Windows XP

Due to Microsoft recently ending support for Windows XP, security updates will no longer be issued for it, and the longer computers remain on Windows XP, the more vulnerable they will be to security risks such as hacking attempts and viruses.

Staying on Windows XP also puts the data in your computer at risk, and poses a threat to data on other computers connected to the campus network.

Since the end of support, vulnerabilities have already been discovered that will never be fixed for Windows XP.

To stay protected and mitigate against those risks, computers that are still running Windows XP must be upgraded to a newer, supported operating system, Windows 7.

IT Services have been working over the past 12 months to upgrade all Windows XP computers. Nearly 9,000 computers have been upgraded in that time but we are aware that there are still a few computers requiring upgrade.

It is essential that we upgrade the remaining Windows XP (or earlier) machines as soon as possible. If you have a computer running Windows XP or earlier, you can request your upgrade by completing this form:

If for any reason you feel you cannot upgrade to a supported Windows operating system, you must inform IT Services by completing this form:
