Celebrate Shakespeare's 450th birthday at the Martin Harris Centre
22 Apr 2014
“Violent delights have violent ends...” (23-25 April 2014)
Award winning Black Box Theatre Company presents a bold and exciting new production of Shakespeare’s most tragic tale – Romeo & Juliet.
In defiance of their families and in secrecy from their closest friends, hopeful young lives burn amidst a celestial and cataclysmic backdrop. Impulsively two star-crossed lovers marry in secret, but in divided times their innocent union is threatened by a bloody family feud. Misadventure, family pride, and ancient quarrels abort and bury the most joyous of beginnings, the most hopeful of love stories as Romeo and Juliet, driven apart, find their world becoming a constricting, single mausoleum of fate and death.
Acclaimed as one of the most dynamic theatre companies in the UK, Black Box’s reputation for punchy and vibrant productions of contemporary and classic theatre continues to grow. With an excellent twenty year track record for adapting and performing classic literature for new audiences – Othello (2013) Of Mice and Men (2011) Hamlet (2010) - over the years the company has toured across the UK and internationally.
