Discover St Peter's Chapel at Tabley

04 Apr 2014

Hear fascinating stories about the history and architecture of this hidden gem on 15 April at a talk by Clare Pye, Chairman of The Tabley House Collection Trust.

St Peter's Chapel, Tabley

Why did the Leicester family rebuild a 17th Century chapel brick by brick in 1927? Where can you see an example of the work of Burne-Jones for free? Clare Pye (Manchester Museum) will provide the answers to these questions during her talk.

Built by the Cheshire historian Sir Peter Leicester between 1675-9, St Peter's Chapel is a Grade 1 listed building based on the chapel at Brasenose College, Oxford. It was a much-loved estate chapel and enriched with a pre-Reformation statue of St. Peter, Flemish stained glass, Victorian memorial brasses and an 1895 window designed by Burne-Jones and produced by Morris and Co.

The talk will be preceded by the Friends of Tabley AGM at 5-5.30pm. Non-members are very welcome to attend to find out about the work of the Friends in helping to preserve the Tabley House Collection. There will also be a presentation at the meeting of the latest addition to the Collection, courtesy of the Friends.

Wine and nibbles will be served.
