Smarter Driver Training – reduce fuel costs and carbon
21 Mar 2014
During the week commencing 24 March, this training is being repeated with places open to all staff (particularly if you commute by car and use it for business journeys).
Last year, nearly 100 fleet vehicle drivers took part in Smarter Driver Training organised by the Environmental Sustainability Team and achieved average fuel and carbon savings of 15% during the training.
If you’d like to take part in this year's training sessions, please follow the details below.
Main details
- There are 40 places available, eight per day (on 24, 25, 26, 28 and 31 March) in 50 minute time slots from 8.30am with online booking (see below).
- The sessions will start from Booth Street West SURFACE LEVEL car park near MBS (not the multi-storey) and participants should arrive five minutes before their appointment times.
- The training will take place in the instructor’s car, so there is no need for the participant or the University to provide a vehicle.
- Participants need to bring their original photo AND paper driving licences (or paper and ID if they do not have a photo one) and they must be over 20 years old and not have certain motoring offences/issues - please see the attached for the full eligibility criteria.
- Participants have to sign a disclaimer/insurance agreement at the start of the session.
Online booking
You or your colleagues must book the session online. Ideally, the participant books him/herself, or you/the ES Team can do it for him/her.
Log in as follows:
- Go to the login page.
- Delegates input a valid email address and the staff password ‘unimancstaff’ in the respective fields (drivers should check that the email address used to log in is valid, as confirmation of booking will be emailed to this account).
If the driver does not have an email address, please use the default email address training@unimanchester.ac.uk. This will allow access to the schedule enabling a booking to be made. Delegates will not receive an email confirmation if using this option and are therefore advised to make a note of time and date of their booking manually.
- Once successfully logged in, the timetable will show up on screen. Available slots are highlighted green, booked slots are highlighted red. To make a booking, select a green slot, enter the driver’s name when prompted and then click “confirm”. A confirmation email will be sent to the driver’s email account (if they have used their own email address)
