Manchester Heroes: Should the City Remember its Heroes?
11 Mar 2014
Panel discussion on Monday, 24 March at the National Football Museum - 6.30pm-8pm
Manchester is associated with a unique cast of characters from the Pankhurst family to Alan Turning, George Best to Morrissey. 200 miles North of London, it is no surprise that many of these figures have been radicals and eccentrics, who bravely challenged conventions.
The panel will discuss whether the city should remember its heroes. Is it important for today's children to know about Manchester's historical heroes? And, if so, how should we go about remembering them? Come along and have your say!
The Panel comprises:-
- John Amaechi - Organisational Consultant, high-performance executive coach and former NBA basketball star.
- Rosa Battle - Labour Party Councillor for the Bradford Ward and Executive Member for Culture and Leisure on Manchester City Council.
- Tom Bloxham - Chairman and co-founder of property developer Urban Splash and Chancellor of the University of Manchester.
- Terry Christian - Award-winning presenter and broadcaster.
- Ruth Daniel - Creative social music entrepreneur, founder of Fat Northerner Records, founder of Un-Convention and founder and Director of Agencia.
- Michael Wood - Broadcaster and Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester.
- Chair: Max Jones - Writer and historian working on Local and National Heroes at the University of Manchester.
