Breakfast’s on us, says Estates and Facilities
10 Mar 2014
On 7 and 9 January, the Directorate of Estates and Facilities held Thank You Breakfasts for their staff in Whitworth Hall in recognition of their hard work and continued dedication.
The breakfasts were inspired by a similar event organised two years ago in place of a Christmas party. With so many staff, working a variety of days, shift patterns and rotas, the Directorate finds it a challenge to arrange an event that most of their staff can attend.
After much discussion, it was decided that breakfasts on two separate days would capture as many people as possible, enabling those on early shifts to attend and rotas to be covered.
Held in Whitworth Hall, the breakfasts were served by the Estates and Facilities senior management team alongside professional catering staff, and the mornings offered entertainment in the form of team quizzes and games of bingo.
Steph Marsh, who helped to organise the two events, recalled: “Bingo was a great talking point on the first day. When nearly all the balls had gone and nobody had called house, it dawned on us that the bingo machine didn’t have quite enough balls! After a quick rummage in lofts and cupboards, a new bingo machine was found for the second day.”
The 500 or so members of staff who attended the two events appeared to enjoy themselves and provided the organisers with some very positive feedback. As a result, the Directorate will definitely be organising further events.
Thank You Scheme
If you'd like to thank someone for their hard work and dedication, why not use the University’s Thank You Scheme, which was launched as a direct result of the feedback given in the Staff Survey 2013.
The scheme features a range of innovative ways in which staff can say ‘thank you’ to each other for work well done, as well as giving greater freedom to managers to recognise the hard work and achievements of their staff.
