Guide Dogs and St. Ann’s Hospice benefit from staff and student generosity

Marie Goldrick, a Technician in the Faculty of Life Sciences, says thank you to everyone who has helped raise £2,755.17 so far for two essential charities
Over the last 2 years, using small change collection boxes across the University in all the Food on Campus outlets and a cake sale in the Michael Smith Building, staff and students have been contributing money, time and baking to help Marie raise much needed funds for both St. Ann’s Hospice and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Marie said, “I starting raising funds for Guide Dogs during their 80th Anniversary. I organised a cake sale in the Michael Smith Building and everybody got involved either baking or helping on the stall. The response was amazing and we raised a staggering £285. I also put a collection box in the eye hospital at the MRI and that one box alone raised a record £110! After that I started doing similar fund raising for St. Ann’s Hospice, putting out collection boxes etc. and people just kept on giving.”
So far, £1,135.18 has been raised for Guide Dogs for the Blind and £1,619.99 for St. Ann’s Hospice and Marie wanted an opportunity to thank everyone involved, “I just wanted to make everyone who has contributed aware of how much they had raised and to thank Clare Booth and all the staff in the Food on Campus outlets, Ann Lymer-Cox, all the staff in University Place, absolutely everyone in the Michael Smith Building and all my friends in the Microbiology Lab. And, of course, to everyone who has so generously given their time, money and support a massive thanks.”
What Next?
